HOUSTON, Texas -- UTSA, one of the top teams in Conference USA, won the doubles point and continued its fight in singles against Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon, ending in a 4-1 victory at the C-USA Showcase.
Chung-Han Tsai and Mieszko Kwasniewski were on the cusp of winning their doubles battle, but the other two courts went 6-4 and 6-3 in favor of the Roadrunners.
Tsai was able to rebound and earn a 6-3, 6-2 win in singles play, the lone point for the Golden Eagles on the day. Kwasniewski was rocking and rolling on No. 6 with a 6-3, 4-4 score before the match was clinched. The Roadrunners were able to win each of the other courts in two sets, improving to 14-7 on the year. UTSA held a 61.4 winning percentage in singles leading into the day.
Southern Miss now has an opportunity for retribution Sunday at 12 p.m. against UAB. The Blazers defeated the Black and Gold back on Feb. 3 on their home court, and a neutral surrounding will give Southern Miss an even better chance.
