The redshirt senior is the only member who has already earned her bachelor's degree.
DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA announced its annual academic awards for women's basketball on Friday afternoon, and redshirt senior Megan Brown was named to its 2019 InTouch Credit Union All-Academic Team for her outstanding performance in the classroom and on the court.
Brown earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Studies with a Spanish minor in just three years at Southern Miss, and she will graduate with her Master's in Kinesiology come May. The Slidell, La. native has excelled in the classroom, graduating from undergrad with a 3.975 GPA and posting a 3.8 GPA as she works toward her graduate degree. Brown is the only member of this five-player academic honor that has already received her undergraduate degree.
In her five-year tenure with the Lady Eagles, Brown has accumulated multiple accolades for her academic success. As a freshman, Brown was awarded the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal. She repeated this in her redshirt sophomore season, and was named to the Dean's List at Southern Miss. As a redshirt junior, she made it a trend, collecting another Commissioner's Medal and another spot on the Dean's List. So far this year, she has found herself on the AD's Honor Roll and was named a Dean's Scholar.
Brown continues to find success outside of the classroom, posting her 1,000th career point against UTSA in her last home game, while also moving up on the all-time games played list at Southern Miss. She's started every game for the Lady Eagles since coming back from injury in her redshirt sophomore season, and her consecutive starts streak is second in C-USA history and third for Southern Miss. She has played in every game possible for USM in her career, and currently ranks second on the team this season for points, average points, 3-pointers, rebounds, assists and minutes.
The lone senior for Southern Miss isn't finished yet, as the Lady Eagles travel to Frisco, Texas for the C-USA Championships, starting on Mar. 13 and concluding on Mar. 16 at The Star.
