Southern Miss Softball Heads to Hammond for Midweek Matchup

Southern Miss will take on Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (10-8) will head to Hammond, La. on Wednesday, March 6 for a 6:30 p.m. (CT) contest against Southeastern Louisiana (11-9).
The last time on the diamond
The last time that the Golden Eagles took the field, they came away with one of their biggest wins of the season, defeating Big 10 opponent Michigan State, 5-2 in their final game of the Easton Crimson Classic on Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, Southern Miss stormed back with a three-run inning. Heather Hill tied the game 2-2 after hammering a two-run single to left center.
Two batters later, Madison Rayner gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game when she blasted an RBI single up the middle, and they never looked back after that.
Senior first baseman Sarah Van Schaik led the Golden Eagles in the contest with a three-hit performance.
Noteworthy moments
Sarah Van Schaik and Destini Brown were named to the Easton Crimson Classic All-Tournament Team after their top-notch performances in Tuscaloosa over the weekend.
At the tournament, Van Schaik batted .462 (6-for-13) with four doubles, three runs batted in, 10 total bases, a .769 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage.
Brown had a big weekend as well, batting .500 (4-for-8) with a run scored, four total bases, four walks, a .500 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.

Southern Miss leads the all-time series with a record of 28-21. The Golden Eagles are 15-5 when facing the Lions in Hattiesburg, 11-15 in games played in Hammond and 2-1 in neutral site matchups.
