HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior running back De'Michael Harris (Vicksburg, Miss.) and junior quarterback Jack Abraham (Oxford, Miss.) earned selection to the 11-member Conference USA All-Academic team Thursday in an announcement by the league office.
Harris, who holds a 3.644 grade point average in Exercise Science, ranks second on the team in rushing with 541 yards to go along with five touchdowns. His numbers include both 100-yard rushing games for the Golden Eagles this season. He was converted from wide receiver to running back after injuries forced him into that role during the early going of the season, but he also added 30 catches for 297 yards and three touchdowns.
In addition, Harris returned a kickoff 100 yards to open the game at Louisiana Tech and has four touchdowns of 50 yards or longer in 2019 to his credit, including two rushing, one receiving and one kickoff return.
In the classroom, Harris enjoyed one Dean's List and one Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolade, while also earning a C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll nod last spring.
Abraham, who holds a 3.915 grade point average in Liberal Studies with plans on going to dental school after graduation, became one of three Southern Miss quarterbacks to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season with 3,239 to rank third-best at the school for a season.
During the year, Abraham tossed at least one TD pass in 10 of 12 games and threw for over 200 yards on nine occasions, 300 yards in four games and 400 yards twice. His passing numbers include seven separate games in which his longest pass play went 60 yards or longer. At one point during the year, Abraham completed 17 straight passes at one point to set a school record and he completed the regular season by converting 67.5 percent of his pass attempts.
Academically, he earned a C-USA Academic Medal and was a Commissioner's Honor Roll selection last spring as well as collecting President's List twice and Dean's List once. Earlier this fall, Abraham was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic District 6 team.
Since the birth of this squad following the 2007 season, the Golden Eagles have had two players represented five times.
