FORT WORTH, Texas – The Southern Miss football team rings in the new year in the city of Fort Worth, having arrived earlier in the evening ahead of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
This will be the 26th bowl game for the Golden Eagles (7-5), who have been bowl eligible for each of the last five seasons and playing in their fourth bowl game over that span.
The Golden Eagles arrived at their team hotel in Downtown Fort Worth during the early evening and immediately enjoyed their dinner before heading into meetings to finish the day.
Southern Miss opened the last day of 2019 by going through its final workout in Hattiesburg, before leaving early afternoon.
Jay Hopson's squad will practice over the next two days at a local high school in preparation for the Saturday, Jan. 4, meeting with Tulane (6-6) in the renewal of the Battle for the Bell.
Still, there will be fun had for the Golden Eagles who have several social outings planned during the week, as well as a couple of community service events for some of the players.
This bowl game marks the first for Southern Miss in the state of Texas since the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl concluded the 2015 campaign. This week's trip marks the fifth time that they have been in the Lone Star State for a postseason contest.
Tickets remain for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl and can be purchased through the Southern Miss Ticket Office via online at SouthernMissTickets.com.
