HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior quarterback Jack Abraham (Oxford, Miss.) has been named one of 10 finalists for the C Spire Conerly Trophy to honor the top college football player in the state, Monday, in an announcement by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
The award is named after Clarksdale, Miss., native, Ole Miss and New York Giant football player Charlie Conerly. This year marks the 24th presentation of the award. Southern Miss has won the award four times in its history which includes Rod Davis (2002), Michael Boley (2004), Damion Fletcher (2007) and Austin Davis (2011).
As for Abraham, he became one of only three Southern Miss quarterbacks to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season, after producing 223 passing yards against WKU last weekend.
He leads Conference USA in passing average per game (286.1) and pass efficiency (155.9) and has converted 67.9 percent of his throws.
In 2019, Abraham has had at least one touchdown pass in 10 of 11 games and threw for over 200 yards (9 times), 300 yards (4 times) and 400 yards (twice). His 463 yards against Troy earlier this season is the second-most passing yards in a game by a Southern Miss quarterback.
Over the course of the season, Abraham put together seven separate games in which his longest pass play went for 60 yards or longer and his 3,147 passing yards ranks third on the school charts for a season.
Off the field, Abraham collected CoSIDA District Academic All-District honors earlier this month.
This year's winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Country Club of Jackson. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with a reception and the program follows at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.msfame.com or by calling 601-982-8264.
The public will have their opportunity to vote for their favorites among this group during the C Spire Fan Vote, which will be held starting at 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, and running through Sunday, Dec. 1, at noon.
