HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Saturday marks the final regular-season home contest for 18 Southern Miss seniors when they take on WKU at 2:30 p.m., at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The 2019 Golden Eagle senior class has enjoyed four winning seasons over their tenure and posted 28 career wins. They have been to a pair of bowl games, including the 2016 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and 2017 Walk-On's Independence Bowl. The team was bowl eligible last season, but did not get a berth in a bowl contest.
Their tenures started in 2016 with a 44-35 road victory over Kentucky in Lexington, giving the program its first victory over a Southeastern Conference program since the 2000 campaign. The team went on to defeat Louisiana Tech in the final regular season contest, 39-24, to earn bowl eligibility and then beat Louisiana-Lafayette, 28-21, in the New Orleans Bowl.
The 2017 season saw the Golden Eagles win eight contests, including their final three regular-season games – the regular-season finale was a 28-27 road win over Marshall. The program also enjoyed an exciting 34-27, double-overtime victory over Louisiana Tech in Ruston earlier in the year.
Last year, Southern Miss won its two final games of the season to reach at least six victories for the fifth-straight year. The pair of triumphs came over Louisiana Tech, 21-20, at home and then was followed with a 39-7 thumping of UTEP in the season finale in El Paso, Texas.
This senior class has posted a 28-9 record when they have scored 20 or more points in a game during their time, while also collecting a 14-0 record when they hold their opponents to fewer than 20 points in a contest.
Currently, Southern Miss enjoys an eight-game home winning streak as well as eight C-USA home wins in a row. A win in one of its two final regular season contests will give them at least eight wins in two of their four seasons.
The 18 players in their final year for Southern Miss include: Matt Bromell (Melbourne, Australia), Torrence Brown (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Nick Dawson (Atlanta, Ga.), Drake Dorbeck (Vicksburg, Miss.), Tyler Flathau (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Ernest Gunn (Selma, Ala.), De'Michael Harris (Vicksburg, Miss.), Darius Kennedy (Moss Point, Miss.), Delmond Landry (Donaldsonville, La.), Neil McLaurin (Laurel, Miss.), Jordan Mitchell (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Ty Pollard (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Will Potosky III (Hudson, Fla.), Demarrio Smith (Canton, Miss.), Trevor Terry (Long Beach, Miss.), DQ Thomas (Arlington, Texas), Terry Whittington (Cooper City, Fla.) and Ty Williams (Charleston, Miss.).
