Andrew Stein Wins Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week Award

DALLAS – Southern Miss freshman placekicker Andrew Stein (Slidell, La./Northshore HS) captured the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week as voted on by a panel of the league's media and released Monday afternoon.
Stein, one of 11 true freshman place kickers seeing action in the FBS, connected on three-of-three field goals and totaled 13 points a 37-2 win over UAB last Saturday.
Stein converted field goal attempts of 35, 44 and 25 yards and has now made 15-of-18 field goals in his initial season, including nine of his last 10 attempts over the last three games. In addition, Stein converted all four extra points against the Blazers and is 27-of-28 this season.
On eight kickoffs last Saturday, he averaged 63.0 yards and registered three touchbacks, while limiting the Blazers to 12.2 yards over five returns. His kickoff total included one that bounced off the hands of the UAB returner following a Southern Miss safety and pinned the Blazers back inside their five-yard line.
WKU graduate transfer quarterback Ty Storey was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, while the Defensive Player of the Week honor went to junior Hilltopper safety Devon Key. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.
This was the first weekly honor for Stein and third C-USA special team weekly award for the Golden Eagles this season. Southern Miss' total of C-USA weekly awards this season is now six.
The Golden Eagles (6-3 overall, 4-1 C-USA West) return to action when they travel to UTSA, Saturday, Nov. 16, for a 5 p.m., contest at the Alamodome. The game can be seen online via ESPN+ as well as be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
