Softball Wraps Up Fall Season With Saturday Doubleheader

Southern Miss will play host to William Carey and Meridian CC.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team will conclude its fall season with a doubleheader on Saturday (October 19).
Southern Miss will open Saturday's doubleheader with a 10:00 a.m. (CT) matchup against cross-town NAIA foe William Carey. Following its game against William Carey, Southern Miss will take on Meridian CC at 2:00 p.m. (CT). Both games will be played at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
The Last Time Out
The last time that Southern Miss stepped on the diamond, they swept Northeast Mississippi CC in a doubleheader on Sunday (October 13). The Golden Eagles captured a 13-1 victory in game one and took a 12-4 decision in game two.
While Southern Miss produced a lot of offense in both games of the doubleheader, the day was highlighted by a 10-run inning in game two. Southern Miss came out of the gates swinging, racking up 10 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first inning.
The Opponents
William Carey is led by Head Coach Craig Fletcher, who is currently in his sixth season at the helm of the Crusaders' softball program.
William Carey ended the 2019 season with an overall record of 37-16 and a record of 24-8 in SSAC (Southern States Athletic Conference) play.
In postseason play, William Carey made an appearance in the SSAC Championship in Decatur, Ala. and then went on to advance and host the NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Round at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
Meridian CC is led by Head Coach Faith Robinson, who is currently in her seventh season coaching at her alma mater.
Under Robinson's direction, the Lady Eagles finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 23-19 and a record of 15-13 in MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges) play.

Admission to Saturday's doubleheader is FREE! Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. (CT). The doubleheader will consist of two seven-inning contests.
