HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The accolades for Southern Miss quarterback Jack Abraham (Oxford, Miss.) continued Monday after completing 29-of-36 passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns to go along with a rushing score in a 45-27 homecoming win over North Texas last weekend.
Abraham earned the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, while also being named as one of eight quarterbacks as "Stars of the Week" by the Manning Award, as well as a member of the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 weekly list.
Abraham threw for over 400 yards for the third time in his career, as he completed pass plays of 72, 59 and 59 yards and at one point, completed six consecutive passes for double-digit yards during the contest. He opened the game by recording eight-straight completions and had strings of seven catches two more times during the affair. The 421 passing yards is the sixth-highest total in school history and the eighth time the Golden Eagles have had a QB throw for over 400 yards in a contest. Abraham has thrown for 1,936 yards this season and has completed 71.7 percent of his passes (eighth in the FBS).
Fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. (CT), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. The Davey O'Brien Fan Vote, now in its 13th year, gives fans a chance to play a role in determining the award winner. Fans may vote daily for their favorite quarterback at www.VoteOBrien.org.
The C-USA weekly offensive honor is the second for Abraham and third for the Golden Eagles this season.
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Marshall senior DL Darius Hodge, and the Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to UAB senior K Nick Vogel. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.
