First Pitch Banquet Set for Feb. 2; Members of CWS Team Set as Guest Speakers

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Former Southern Miss baseball coach Corky Palmer, along with members of the 2009 College World Series squad, will serve as guest speakers for this year's 1st Pitch Banquet set for Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Thad Cochran Center. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the event starting at 6 p.m.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Golden Eagles' magical run to close out the 2009 campaign under Palmer's leadership which culminated in the school's first regional and super regional championships, before advancing to the mecca of college baseball, Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series. That team finished with a No. 8 final ranking and a 40-26 record in one of the most successful seasons of any sport in Southern Miss Athletics history.
This year's squad is gearing up for the season, which begins Feb. 15-17, at home against Big 10 foe Purdue. The 1st Pitch Banquet will be Golden Eagle fans first opportunity to meet members of this year's team.
