Golden Eagles Fall to FSU in Three Sets

Hattiesburg, Miss. – Southern Miss looked to stay hot Saturday morning against Florida State at the Home2Suites Tallahassee Seminole Volleyball Invitational, but the Seminoles were also on a streak of their own. By games end, the Golden Eagles dropped the match in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 26-24) to FSU.

The first and second sets went much of the same way after Florida State jumped ahead early, ultimately making it tough for Southern Miss to make a comeback. Needing to win a set to extend the match, Southern Miss did its best in the third set.

Florida State jumped ahead early in the third set, but the Golden Eagles were able to slice into the deficient. Down by four, Southern Miss was able to regain control and take a 23-21 lead via a Chandler Marshall kill. Despite the slight change in momentum, Florida State answered to tie the game at 24. The Seminoles then went on to score the final two points to sweep the Golden Eagles.

Kylie Grandy led the way with 15 kills. Aiding Grandy, Alexis Coombs and Marshall added seven and six kills, respectively. Senior Sarah Bell totaled 31 assists and eight digs. Coombs' hitting percentage was at .875 percent by games end.

At 4:30 p.m., Southern Miss will be back in action against VCU.
