Southern Miss Set to Take on Nicholls State on Sunday

The Golden Eagles will look to continue their road success
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (4-1) will travel to Thibodaux, La. for a road contest against Southland Conference opponent, the Nicholls State Colonels (2-4) beginning at 1:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, September 9. The match will be played at E.D. White Catholic High School.
Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles took the pitch against the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin on Friday night in Nacogdoches, TX and after 48 minutes of play, the game was cancelled due to persistent lightning in the area and unplayable field conditions. The game was originally ruled as a 0-0 draw but was later changed to a cancelled contest due to the length of the match. Per NCAA rules, a contest must be played a minimum of 70 minutes in order to be ruled final.
Southern Miss will now prepare for their contest against the Nicholls State Colonels. Nicholls State's two wins on the season came against SWAC opponents, Jackson State and Alcorn State. Nicholls State defeated Jackson State 2-1 in an overtime contest on August 31 at Yockey Bernard Field in Thibodaux, La. Nicholls State followed their victory against Jackson State by shutting out Alcorn State 6-0 at Yockey Bernard Field on Sunday, September 2.
Southern Miss and Nicholls State have faced each other a total of eight times on the pitch. Southern Miss leads the all-times series 6-1-1. The Golden Eagles are 4-1-0 in home contests against the Colonels, 1-0-1 in away contests and 1-0-0 when playing at a neutral site. Southern Miss will look to continue their success against Nicholls State and extend their winning streak. The Golden Eagles currently hold the second longest winning streak in C-USA (4). Louisiana Tech leads C-USA with a six-game winning streak.
