The Lady Eagles had their first full practice of the fall.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles had their first official practice of the season Thursday afternoon. The team hit the hardwood at 1:30pm, rolling through various team drills and skills.
Quotable – Coach McNelis
"Today was a definitely a high energy practice. Defense was probably the best aspect, we threw the ball a little bit of everywhere. I was very pleased with our overall effort and our energy. Execution wasn't very good, but that's expected with new players and all the excitement and energy that we had. But again, that's something you work with. I would rather have an opportunity to slow things down rather than hype things up. I'm very proud of our team and how they showed up and focused and were energized. We're a work in progress and we just have to trust the process and continue to work."
The squad returns four starters from the 2017-18 season as well as seven letter winners. Three freshmen were added to the team and Camille Anderson will finally hit the court after sitting out last season due to transfer rules.
Newcomers include Daishai Almond from Athens, Ga., Shania Edgecombe from Jacksonville, Fla., and Destiny Smith from McComb, Miss.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis enters her 15th season at the helm of the Lady Eagles Basketball Program. She welcomes one new staff member, Patosha Jeffery, as an assistant coach. McNelis now has two of her former players on staff, as Jeffery played for her at Memphis.
