Golden Eagles Drop C-USA Opener

Hattiesburg, Miss. – After winning the first set, the Southern Miss (6-8, 0-1 C-USA) volleyball team dropped its C-USA opener to UTSA (9-4, 1-0 C-USA) in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 21-25) on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles got off to a promising start after mounting a comeback to win the first set. Southern Miss hit a team-high .290 with 15 kills in that opening set.
Following the first set, the Roadrunners bounced back and won the next three sets to earn their first C-USA win. Kylie Grandy recorded a game-high 18 kills on a .208 hitting percentage. Chandler Marshall added 11 kills and Catherine Repsher added nine. Repsher climbed to fifth in the C-USA ranks with a .333 hitting percentage and an overall hitting percentage of .351.
Sarah Bell contributed with 37 assists, 16 digs and four kills. Madison Lawler ended with 10 digs and Alexis Coombs had two solo blocks at the net.
Southern Miss will return to action on Sunday, facing UTEP at 12 p.m. (MT) in El Paso, Texas.
