Mindnich garners C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the first time in her career
IRVING, Texas – Southern Miss sophomore goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich has been named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 16. Today marks the first time that Mindnich has been named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week in her Southern Miss career.
The Melbourne Beach, Fla. native finished the week with a total of 186:00 minutes played in two matches. Mindnich started both contests of the week in net for the Golden Eagles.
Mindnich was an integral part of a Golden Eagles squad that surrendered just one goal on the week. The sophomore tallied a total of five saves on the week with four of those coming in Southern Miss' 1-0 overtime win against Western Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. Mindnich's play in goal helped lead the Golden Eagles to their first victory over the Lady Toppers in program history. Mindnich was also credited with the first shutout of her Southern Miss career on Sunday after coming away with a clean sheet after playing the full 96:13 in Sunday's match.
Mindnich has appeared in six games this season, earning six starts. In six games played, the Southern Miss goalkeeper has logged a total of 487:00 minutes played, has surrendered seven goals, recorded 17 saves, and posted a record of 5-1.
Southern Miss head soccer coach Mohammed El-Zare has been impressed with Mindnich's play and development this season.
"I am proud of Kendell and her accomplishments," he said. "She worked hard in the spring and summer to develop her skill set and continues to do so every day. Every day she is getting better and is hitting all of the marks that we set for her. She is very deserving of this award and I am happy for her to have her hard work recognized."
Each week during the season, C-USA awards one offensive, defensive, and goalkeeper of the week award. Mindnich is the first Southern Miss player to be awarded one of the weekly conference awards this season.
