Southern Miss Set to Host Western Kentucky in C-USA Opener on Sunday

The Golden Eagles return home for their first home match since August 24
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (6-1) will return home for their first home match since August 24 when they host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2-3-2) on Sunday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at the USM Track & Field and Soccer Complex.
The Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles traveled to Jackson, Miss. on Thursday for the final match of their five-game road swing against SWAC opponent Jackson State University. Southern Miss defeated their in-state rival by a final score of 6-1.
Midfielders Olivia Durham, Jenny Carracheo, Miah Zuazua, Monica Maldonado and forward Rana Hussein all contributed to the scoring for the Golden Eagles in Thursday's match. Carracheo and Maldonado each recorded their first goals of the season and Durham recorded her first multi-goal game of the season.
Breaking Down the All-Time Record
Currently sporting a six-game winning streak, Southern Miss will look to continue their success as they enter C-USA play for the first time this season. Western Kentucky leads the all-time series with a record of 2-0-1. The Hilltoppers defeated the Golden Eagles in the first ever meeting between the two schools by a final score of 2-0 on October 26, 2014 in Hattiesburg. The two schools met again on September 22, 2016, this time in Bowling Green, Ky. and the Hilltoppers came away with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
