Southern Miss Defeats Jackson State 6-1 in Capital City Battle

The Golden Eagles extend their winning streak to six games
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (6-1) defeated Jackson State (0-7) by a final score of 6-1 at the JSU Soccer Field on the campus of Jackson State University on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles got off to a fast start when Jenny Caracheo netted the game's first goal at the 35:09 mark in the first half, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Olivia Durham was credited with the assist on Caracheo's goal. Miah Zuazua added the second goal of the game for the Golden Eagles at the 26:41 mark in the first half of play to put the Golden Eagles on top 2-0. Caracheo assisted Zuazua on the goal.
Olivia Durham netted the Golden Eagles third and final goal of the first half at the 8:23 mark. Durham's goal was unassisted.
Southern Miss proved to not lose any offensive steam in the second half as they matched their first half goal total.
Rana Hussein kicked off the second half scoring for the Golden Eagles by scoring their fourth goal of the game at the 44:00 mark. Monica Maldonado earned the assist on Hussein's goal. Maldonado followed up her assist by scoring the Golden Eagles fifth goal of the match at the 36:33 mark. Zuazua picked up the assist on the goal from Maldonado.
Durham finished off the scoring for the Golden Eagles when she recorded her second goal of the contest with 8:18 remaining in the match. JoAnnie Ramos assisted Durham on the goal.
Southern Miss will return to Hattiesburg for their first home match since August 24th when they host C-USA opponent Western Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at the USM Track & Field and Soccer Complex.
