The Lady Eagles have landed in Costa Rica.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles left Hattiesburg for a tropical trip in Costa Rica, reaching their destination on Aug. 6. The team will play the national and professional teams from Costa Rica, Guatemala and Mexico, respectively.
NCAA basketball teams are allowed one foreign trip every four years and receive 10 days of official practice to prepare for it. This is the Lady Eagles' first-ever preseason foreign trip, and their only regular-season journey came in Cancun in 2009.
To add to a list of firsts, some team members had their first airplane experience. Freshman Daishai Almond weighed in on the flight saying, "It was fun throughout the flight, but the landing was difficult because my stomach kept dropping." She found herself caught off guard by the pre-flight process but understood why it was what it was.
Excitement of Trip – Daishai Almond
"I'm excited because I've never been outside of the country. I'm also looking forward to enjoying the culture and different things I've never done before. I'm very excited to play. It's my first time. I'm nervous of course. I feel like once I get the hang of it, it will all play out pretty smooth."
Game 1 – Costa Rican National Team
