HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert announced Saturday that Golden Eagle football coach Jay Hopson has agreed to a new four-year deal.
"Jay's leadership has brought stability to the football program resulting in winning seasons and bowl games in his first two years," said Gilbert. "The progress seen in this program can be attributed to his passion for teaching and developing our student-athletes which aligns with all that we stand for at Southern Miss."
In two seasons leading the Golden Eagles, Hopson has compiled a 15-11 record and is tied for the most wins in school history for a head coach over his first two seasons, tying Curley Hallman (1988-89).
The Golden Eagles open the 2018 season next Saturday, Sept. 1, when they entertain Jackson State at 6 p.m., at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The contract runs through January 31, 2022.
