HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss soccer team is ready to get back on the pitch Sunday afternoon when it takes on ULM at 1 p.m. CT.
The team arrived back on campus early Friday morning after a 3-0 defeat at Mississippi State. Two early goals allowed for the Bulldogs to gain an advantage it would not relinquish. Kendell Mindnich staved off an aggressive Bulldog approach with six saves out of 21 total shot attempts.
On the flip side, ULM boasts the Sun Belt's leading goalkeeper for saves in Brooke-Lynn Scroggins, a challenge that the Golden Eagles will look to embrace.
Southern Miss has won its last seven non-conference home games, with its only blemish the previous two seasons coming in a 1-0 defeat to Mississippi State.
ULM went 3-13-2 last season and on Friday fell 2-1 at Jacksonville State. The Warhawks were out-shot 13-3 and scored their lone goal in the 72nd minute. Southern Miss assistant Megan Soileau spent the last two seasons on the Warhawk staff in the same role. The two teams have faced each other only twice before, both 1-0 decisions. ULM won in 2015, while the Golden Eagles took the 2016 battle.
Admission to all soccer games is free. Fans can follow live updates through Twitter (@SouthernMissSoc).
