Softball Hosts UAB in Home C-USA Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team hosts UAB in a Conference USA three-game series on April 7-8. The Saturday doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 pm with the Sunday single game starting at 1 pm as well. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend 14-27, 4-8 in C-USA play while UAB is 13-23-1 and 5-3-1 in conference play.
Sunday is Seymour Sidekick Appreciation and is packed with activities for kids including carnival games and arts and crafts. It is also Family Day; fans can purchase four (4) general admission tickets and a $10 concession voucher for $25 at southernmisstickets.com.
The Blazers fell in their lone midweek game against Lipscomb, 0-2, on Tuesday after they took the three-game series against Middle Tennessee the previous weekend. Southern Miss dropped both midweek games, 7-1 against South Alabama, and 5-1 against Ole Miss.
Following this series, the Golden Eagles have one midweek contest, Southern University, before having the weekend of April 14-15 off.

Series Record
UAB leads 34-26 but the Golden Eagles are 16-11 in Hattiesburg. Last year the Blazers took the three-game series 2-1 in Birmingham with game scores of 0-1, 10-4, and 2-3.
Scouting the Opponents
The Blazers are led by centerfielder Destini England who is currently ranked fourth in C-USA for her .403 batting average. England also leads her team in hits (50) and total bases with 60. Her 50 hits is also good for fourth in C-USA. Analyse Petree who has a .270 batting average leads UAB in homeruns (5) and runs (23) while coming in second in hits with 30.
Emily Kachel has the majority of the innings in the circle for UAB with 117.2 innings pitched and a 9-10 record. Kachel has a 2.92 ERA allowing 49 earned runs on the season and 84 strikeouts. Claire Blount, with seven complete games, has pitched 95.1 innings with a 2-11 record and 70 strikeouts.
