
Softball Travels to Tuscaloosa to Take on No. 17 Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the final midweek game of the season. The Golden Eagles take on the No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide in a single game on Wednesday, April 18 with first pitch slated to be at 6 pm.
The game will be aired on SEC Network and can be streamed through WatchESPN with play by play from Cara Capuano and color analyst Kayla Braud. Live stats will also be available. The Golden Eagles enter the contest 16-29, 6-10 in C-USA play while the Tide enters with a record of 26-13 and 7-8 in the SEC.
Southern Miss last played April 10 when they got the win over the Southern Jaguars, 8-2. Freshman Destini Brown picked up her first homeruns as a Golden Eagles, a solo dinger over the right field wall and a 2 RBI inside the park homer, scoring Ciarra Cherry along the way. Cherry currently leads the team with a .349 batting average just ahead of Brown (.342) and is sporting a .500 slugging percentage.
In the circle, senior Kim Crowson leads with a team low 3.22 ERA and 29 appearances on the season. The senior, in her 95 2/3 innings pitched has 43 strikeouts and an 8-9 record while Samantha Robles, another senior, has a 6-12 record and 120 complete innings of work with 80 strikeouts.
Series Record
Alabama leads the series 10-2 with the latest Crimson Tide win coming in the Southern Miss Invitational that was held earlier this year. The nationally ranked team took the win 11-1 in Hattiesburg.
Scouting the Opponent
The Tide has four players with batting averages over .300. Kaylee Tow (.370), Gabby Callaway (.317), Elissa Brown (.314), and Bailey Hemphill (.310) and topping the stats. Tow leads the Tide in hits (40), homeruns (10), and total bases (80). Brown leads the team in stolen bases going 22 for 23.
In the circle, Courtney Gettins leads the team with a 2.14 ERA, 10-3 record, with 85.0 innings pitched along with 47 strikeouts. Alexis Osorio with 152 strikeouts had a 2.29 ERA and a 10-6 record with 104.0 innings pitched. Overall the staff has a 2.39 ERA and has only allowed 86 earned runs combined.
