
Softball Falls to LA Tech in C-USA Series Finale

RUSTON, La. - The Southern Miss softball team drops the series finale to LA Tech despite out hitting the Lady Techsters, 8-4. The Golden Eagles fall to 14-25, 4-8 in C-USA.
Southern Miss accounted for nine hits including a two-run homerun from Alyssa Davis, her second on the season. Sarah Van Schaik added two hit to the mix while Ciarra Cherry, Karley Nichols, Caitlyn Aldous, Rebekah DiLavore and Samantha Papp all had one.
Kim Crowson got the start in the circle but the Lady Techsters saw four different pitchers in the outing. Crowson started and pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts before Samantha Robles came in relief. Robles went for 2 1/3 innings allowing one run before she was relieved by Jillian Johnson. Johnson was in the circle for one complete inning, giving up three runs before Crowson reentered. In the bottom of the sixth, Peyton Carter found her way to the circle and finished the game. Johnson was charged with the loss.
LA Tech took the early lead, 3-0, before Davis took a first pitch swing and lifted a two-run homer over the left field wall to cut the deficit to one run. The Lady Techsters answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer over the center field wall to take back a run, 4-2.
In the top of the fifth the Golden Eagles tied the game on a Papp two RBI double to right center, scoring Chase Nelson and Van Schaik. LA Tech responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-4 lead and added an insurance run in the sixth to give them the 8-4 win.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Tuesday, April 3rd in Mobile, Ala. taking on South Alabama in a single midweek matchup.
