
Softball Falls to No. 13 LSU on Tuesday Evening

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Southern Miss softball team fell to No. 13 LSU on Tuesday evening in Baton Rouge, 4-1. The Golden Eagles move to 14-21 on the season.
Southern Miss put up five hits in the contest. Destini Brown, Samantha Papp, Sarah Van Schaik, Tata Davis, and Rebekah DiLavore all tallied hits including Van Schaik's double to left field in the top of the sixth.
The Tigers of LSU had a single run in each of the first four innings before being shutout in the final two. Freshman Shelbi Sunseri hit her first collegiate homerun in the bottom of the second inning to put LSU up 2-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles crossed the plate one time. Brown laid down a bunt and on the next pitch stole second, she was then moved to third after a fly out by Van Schaik. Davis with an RBI single scored Brown to cut the Tiger lead, 3-1, but LSU pieced together a run in the bottom of the fourth to take back the three run lead.
Samantha Robles got the starting nod and pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs and had two strikeouts. Jillian Johnson came in relief in the top of the fifth and pitched three complete innings and allowed only one run. Robles was charged with the loss and moves to 6-9 on the season.
The Golden Eagles travel to Thibodaux, La. to take on Nicholls State tomorrow, March 28th in a single game. First pitch is set for 6 pm.
