Two Event Wins Highlight the Jaguar Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's and women's track team concluded the weekend with two event wins at the Jaguar Invite in Birmingham on Sunday evening.
Freshman Kate Mattox ran a lifetime best in the women's one mile and finished first overall with a time of 4:55.12 while senior Courtney Filliben took the women's 800m event with a time of 2:11.71.
Victoria Hoppe and Theresa Harto both ran in the women's 3000 with times of 10:27.85 and 10:29.57 finishing third and fourth overall. Teammate Regen McGee finished tenth in the 800m with a time of 2:16.97 and in the women's 60m dash, Keiyana Gaskin came in fifth with a time of 7.62. In the women's 400, Rian Robinson finished fifth with a time of 56.63 and Chenelle Ricketts claimed tenth with a time of 57.78.
With a mark of 1.74m, Jamari Drake, finished fourth overall in the women's high jump while Zaria Jones took home eighth in the long jump with a 4.72m mark.
On the men's side, Lorenzen Burton finished third in the 400m with a time of 48.98 and Patton Little ran the 800m in 1:56.09 finishing fourth overall.
The women finished the day with a fourth place finish in the 4x400m relay team comprised of Robinson, Gaskin, Aireanna Taylor, and Ricketts.
Next up for the team is the Music City Invite on Feb 10-11 in Nashville, Tenn.; the final regular season indoor meet before heading back to familiar ground in Birmingham for the 2018 C-USA Indoor Championships.
