HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â In Stephanie Radecki's 2019Â recruiting class, the Southern Miss volleyball coach inked four National Letter of Intents. Radecki signed Hallie Phelan, Summer Johnson, Kess Krutsinger, and Liana Guillemaud, all four of which are high school seniors.Â
Hallie Phelan
Phelan, who hails from Madison, Miss., stands at 6-foot and is projected to be an outside/rightside hitter at Southern Miss. In her senior campaign at Madison Central High School, Phelan recorded 421 kills, 31 blocks, 248 digs and a .277 hitting percentage.Â
"Hallie has played predominantly on the right, but is also versatile," Radecki said. "She is a great athlete and a complete competitor."
Her father, Jim Phelan, played football at Kansas, while her mother, Stephanie Phelan, played volleyball at Xavier. Coming from an athletic family, Phelan was a First Team All-State honoree, First Team All Conference honoree, All-District honoree and was named Team MVP. Going 96-45 in her time at Madison Central High School, Phelan leaves as the all-time kills, digs and serve reception leader.Â
Kess Krutsinger
A three-time Colorado State Champion, Krutsinger heads to Southern Miss from Colorado Springs, Co. A 5-foot-11 middle blocker, Krutsinger had 587 kills, 285 blocks, and a .410 hitting percentage in her four-year varsity career at Lewis Palmer High School.Â
"We are very excited to add such a dynamic and competitive middle to our program," Radecki said. "Kess is an explosive and fast middle. She also has a winning mentality as a result of competing for such a successful program."
As a freshman and sophomore, she was named an AVCA Under Armour Phenom. As a junior, she earned First Team All-Conference, an All-State selection, a Gazette Preps 5A/4A Volleyball All-Star selection, and Lewis Palmer High School Offensive Player of the Year. Krutsinger is expected to haul in a few more as she wraps up her time at Lewis Palmer.Â
Liana Guillemaud
A native of Lucas, Texas, Guillemaud comes to Southern Miss from Lovejoy High School. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter has recorded 211 kills, 82 digs and a .232 hitting percentage in her senior campaign. Guillemaud and her Lovejoy team are vying for a Texas State Championship and will play in the semifinal game on Friday.Â
"Liana plays at a high level, both offensively and defensively," Radecki said. "She is a strong sixth rotation volleyball player and is only going to get better."
Summer Johnson
A senior at Konos Academy, Johnson is a three-time All-State selection in Georgia. Her 2018 squad went 15-3 en route to a state championship a year after finishing as runner-ups. The Palmetto, Georgia, native stands at 6-foot and is projected to be a setter for the Golden Eagles. In her past two seasons, Johnson has played in the GICCA All-Star Game and was MVP of her high school team for three consecutive seasons.Â
"Summer is a strong setter," Radecki said. "She contacts the ball high and delivers it fast. She has experience as both a setter and hitter, which will make her a strong offensive threat."
The four signees will fill the void that seniors Sarah Bell, Kylie Grandy, Alexis Coombs, Katherine Still, and Dani Ajayi leave behind as they graduate.Â
"Not only are these ladies strong volleyball players and athletes, but they are amazing people and students," Radecki said. "We feel they will make a huge impact on the culture of our program and we are excited to begin this journey with them."
