Picasso Nelson, Jr., Named Google Cloud Academic All-District® 6 Football Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Picasso Nelson, Jr., a graduate student working on his Master's in Business Administration at Southern Miss, earned selection to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Nelson, Jr., posted a 3.73 grade point average on his way to earning a Banking and Finance undergraduate degree and currently holds a GPA of 3.94 in his MBA studies, while also helping lead the Golden Eagle defense this season. He has posted a team-high tying 46 tackles, including four for loss to go along with an interception in his final campaign. This is the third time Nelson, Jr., has garnered this accolade in his career.
His other accomplishments include being named the 2017 Southern Miss Male Best Citizen of the Year as he was one of five student-athletes that have held a Top 10 GPA in the College of Business' Banking and Finance Program. His other awards included being named a Orrin Swayze Scholarship Finalist, while serving as vice president Alumni Relations, along with being members of Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, the Southern Miss SAAC and The Financial Management Association.
His academic accomplishments including being named to the President's List twice, Dean's List three times and collecting two-time C-USA All-Academic honors (2015, 2016).
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
