Golden Eagles Fall in Season Finale

DENTON, Texas -Â The Southern Miss volleyball team dropped its Conference USA season finale to North Texas on Saturday afternoon in three sets (18-25, 23-25, 23-25). The Mean Green dropped the Golden Eagles to 7-7 in C-USA play.Â
Southern Miss fell behind early after North Texas jumped to a 5-3 lead en route to taking the first set via a 25-18 score. Kylie Grandy smacked 13 kills on day to lead the Golden Eagles. In the second set, Southern Miss jumped out to a 10-3 lead, but a North Texas run deflated the advantage. The Mean Green scored five points in a row to take a 19-17 lead, but Southern Miss quickly recovered to tie the game at 19. However, North Texas was able to finish off the Golden Eagles in the set to take a two-set lead.Â
The third set ended in favor of the Mean Green again. The Golden Eagles managed to force some pressure on them late in the set after a 7-2 run, but North Texas capitalized off two Southern Miss errors to secure the win. Sarah Bell paced the Golden Eagles with 30 assists and Catherine Repsher added seven kills. Defensively, Chandler Marshall, Alexis Coombs, and Repsher all had four blacks. In total, Southern Miss ended with eight blocks.Â
The Golden Eagles will now gear up for the C-USA Tournament. Locked in as the No. 7 seed, the Golden Eagles await their Friday opponent. The draw and times will be announced at a later date.
