Men's Tennis begins ITA Regionals Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the ITA Regionals, beginning Thursday and running as late as Tuesday.
The action will primarily take place at the Alabama Tennis Stadium, but also at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Facility (if raining) and Alabama student recreation courts.
"I can say that we all like each other and support each other," Tom Cecchetto said about the team so far this season. "It's the most important thing. I'm new to the regionals, so I have no idea what's going on, but I'm going to enjoy it and do my best to represent Southern Miss."
The Golden Eagles are coming off a successful weekend in Birmingham, Ala., for the Samford Invitational. The squad is comprised entirely of returners from last season and will look to take that chemistry into the rest of fall and eventual spring season.
"We took that tournament as a preparation for regionals," Jorman Reyes said. "Our main goal was to practice our shots, and everyone was fighting and focused on the goals we had. Hopefully we have another good tournament this weekend."
Thirteen teams will be competing in Tuscaloosa: Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, UL Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane and UAB. There are 49 qualifying singles players competing for eight qualifying spots in the main draw, 24 main draw singles players with eight that will be added through qualifying and 35 doubles pairs in the 64 team draw, making for many byes in the first round.
