Hattiesburg, Miss. - After a mini bye week, the Southern Miss volleyball team is back in action. The Golden Eagles are set for a Sunday matinee against the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m. inside Reed Green Coliseum.
Last time out
Against Rice last Sunday, the Golden Eagles fell in five-sets to the top team in C-USA. Southern Miss jumped out hot and took the first set, but the Owls snagged the second and third sets to force some pressure on the Golden Eagles. Backed by an impressive day from Sarah Bell and Kylie Grandy, the squad won the fourth set to set up a fifth set.
The fifth set went the way of Rice, which pushed the Golden Eagles' overall record to 9-10 and 3-3 in C-USA play. Bell ended with 29 digs and 51 assists, while Grandy finished with 28 kills. The performance garnered the two C-USA Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week honors, respectively.
Scouting LA Tech
The Lady Techsters currently sit at 6-15 and 1-5 in C-USA play. The lone conference win came against Middle Tennessee. On Friday night, LA Tech fell in straight sets to North Texas to push their losing streak to five games. The team is led by Kaitlyn Adams, a junior, who has 184 kills and Abigail Hildenbrand, who has 611 assists on the season.
