Men's Tennis begins fall season Friday in Birmingham
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team is entirely comprised of returners, and after a 19-win season, it will return to action Friday-Sunday at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
"We are excited to get started," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "This is our first fall tournament. It's all about preparation for the team this new into the season. The whole team is back, they're all returners with experience."
One big loss for the team this season is Wen-Po Tseng, who finished his career as an All-Conference USA performer in singles and doubles. However, every other returner finished .500 or better in singles and doubles last spring.
The singles side of returners includes Jorman Reyes (17-3), Chung-Han Tsai (12-3) and Ronit Bisht (12-5). The Tom Ceccheto and Mieszko Kwasniewski pair also went 11-3.
The Golden Eagles will also be tested with a strong field featuring an exclusively-Yellowhammer State field: Auburn, North Alabama, Samford and UAB. Both the Tigers and Jaguars have two players ranked in ITA's top-125 heading into the season. USA's doubles combo of Loic Cloes and Clement Marzol are ranked No. 6 nationally.
