HATTIESBURG, Miss -- Southern Miss Women's Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis refers to senior guard Megan Brown as her, "Steady Eddie."
The Slidell, La. Native earned this title for multiple seasons. Some of which include playing in every game during the 2016-17 campaign after coming back off of a season ending knee injury, being willing to play a different position and being the team's steady leadership voice.
"You think you know it's coming," Brown said of becoming the team's leader with senior Jayla King. "But it sneaks up on you. To me, it requires leadership that is going to be consistent because you can't hand it off to anybody. You're it. It also requires having fun too."
Three Lady Eagles, including Brown, started all 34 games last season. An individual has not done that since Jamierra Faulkner it in 2013-14 season and Brooke Rhodes in 2014-15. Brown averaged 7.1 points and 4.4 rebounds a game and shot .470 from the floor.
She is looking to use last year to build on and carry her into this season.
"I will like to be more offensively aggressive this year, as a player," Brown said. "We'll need it to make up for what we lost with Brittanny Dinkins and other players. It's going to be important that someone can score."
Tickets for the upcoming season can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center.
