HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss head coach Mohammed El-Zare and his program have announced the 2017 fall schedule, beginning with an Aug. 10 exhibition at home versus Southeastern Louisiana.
The regular season begins with a traditional Friday, Sunday home slate. The first match is against Nicholls at 4 p.m., followed by a noon tilt with Stephen F. Austin to conclude the weekend. It is the first time since 1998-99 that Southern Miss has opened back-to-back regular seasons at home.
Miles will be aplenty in the final weekend of August, as the Golden Eagles travel to Beaumont, Texas on the 25th to take on Lamar before traveling northeast to Monroe, La., to play ULM Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles also have a road battle with Ole Miss on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. as part of Labor Day weekend. They will remain on the road the succeeding weekend, playing at Houston on Friday at 7 p.m. before venturing down the street for a 2 p.m. Sunday matchup at Texas Southern.
The year concludes with three consecutive road contests at UAB, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech.
Southern Miss will not play North Texas, UTSA or FIU in the regular season. The conference tournament is slated for Nov. 1-5 in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Golden Eagles last year earned their first winning season in 13 years, going 8-7-2. This will be El-Zare's fifth season at the helm.
