Track and Field Travel to LSU Alumni Gold

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Golden Eagles men's and women's outdoor track and field teams travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Alumni Gold and assistant coach Aaron Kindt is taking a small group of distance runners to the Virginia Challenge.
The Golden Eagles are looking to build on their success from the previous meets as they continue to prepare for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 11- 14 in El Paso, Texas.
"There's no better way to prepare for the post season than to face great competition now," said head coach Jon Stuart. "That's what we are anxious for this weekend, and our kids are prepared to get on LSU's fast track. Our javelin boys have fared well at LSU in the past, and Coach Svoboda has them chomping at the bit to throw far."
For the LSU Alumni Gold, the events will take place at the Bernie Moore Track Complex. The meet will have over 20 teams including Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Texas, Clemson, and Tulane all in attendance.
Field events will get started at 9 a.m. with the women's discus. The morning running events will start at 9 a.m. with the women's 3000 steeplechase. The afternoon session of running events will start at 1:20 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.
At the Virginia Challenge, all events will take place at Lannigan Field with the meet being broadcast on ACC Network Extra. The Challenge will have over 50 schools in attendance with nationally ranked women's teams including No. 2 Georgia and No. 5 Florida.
On Friday, Courtney Filliben will compete in the women's 800m race beginning at roughly 8:40 pm. On Saturday, Dana Dillistone and Regen McGee will compete in the 1500m race.
"Coach Kindt is taking a small group to Charlottesville, VA to run against some of the best distance runners on the East Coast," said Stuart. "This is a great opportunity to run against the competition we will face in the first round of the NCAA Championships and simply better our times going into CUSA's."
