HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A home extra inning loss wasn't the desirable end to Friday's doubleheader, but a Golden Eagle 4-2 win on Saturday secured a crucial series over UTSA.
Arielle Pollock went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Heather Hill knocked 2 RBI with a double to lead the offensive attack.
Samantha Robles got the start and the win today (7-7) pitching her eighth complete game. Robles only allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts.
The Roadrunners plated the first run of the game off a fielding error.
Southern Miss answered back and more with three runs in the bottom of the second. Samantha Papp and Pollock hit back-to-back singles when Heather Hill came up to the plate. Hill knocked a double to bring Papp and Pollock home. Samantha Reynolds knocked an RBI single that brought Hill home for the third run.
Bailee Baldwin for UTSA had a solo homer in the top of the fourth for their second and last run of the day. She also hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the series.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pollock drove in Amber Pack, who was in to run for Tori Dew, to secure the win.
Southern Miss meets the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa at 6 pm, before heading to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky in a three-game C-USA series.
