Softball to Host Pair of Midweek Games

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team prepares to host two midweek match-ups. Tuesday, April 11, the Golden Eagles host the Tigers of Jackson State in a single game and then Wednesday, April 12, will host the Jaguars of Southern University. The game against Jackson State is set to begin at 5pm. Southern Miss versus Southern is slated to start at 6pm.
Fans that have already purchased their Southern Miss vs. Ole Miss baseball ticket can present them at the gate for free admission to the Tuesday game. Also, the first 50 fans will receive free sunglasses. On Wednesday, the first 50 fans will receive a Southern Miss hat.
Southern Miss enters the week with a 20-21 overall record. The Golden Eagles closed out this weekend 1-2 against North Texas, snapping a 7-0 home conference win streak.
The Golden Eagles and the Jackson State Tigers have met previously this year with Southern Miss coming out on top, 21-5 in Jackson, Miss.
Live stats and in-game tweets (@SouthernMissSB) will be available throughout the week. Josh West will also be in attendance broadcasting the games on 1400 AM The Score to the local Hattiesburg area.
Scouting Jackson State
Jackson State (9-27) is coming off a weekend SWAC series versus Alcorn, dropping the three-game series to the Braves. They also competed against Mississippi State in a midweek matchup in Starkville, Miss, and fell 14-0.
Southern Miss currently leads Jackson State 16-3 in the all-time series, including this year’s previous contest.
Scouting Southern
Southern (11-12) returns to the diamond after not having competed since April 1. The last series played for the Jaguars was a SWAC three-game series with Prairie View A&M where Southern fell, 5-2, 12-11, and 6-4.
Kiara Suttles leads the Jaguars with a .385 batting average, 23 runs, 25 hits, six doubles, a triple and eight home runs. The junior has five stolen bases, slugs .877 and has a .494 on-base percentage.
Tiara Scott leads the pitching staff with a 4.07 ERA and 3-5 record. The sophomore has tossed two complete games, tallied 23 strikeouts and two shutouts in 42 innings pitched.
Southern Miss leads Southern 3-0 in the all-time series. The last time these two teams met was in 2012 in Hattiesburg.
