
Southern Miss Softball Drops Season Opener

The Golden Eagles tallied five hits on the night. Caitlyn Aldous accounted for two of those hits. Heather Hill and Lauren Holifield each had a single while Tori Dew launched a single allowing Holifield to score a run. Heather Hill drew a walk to give Southern Miss one more base runner.
In the circle Samantha Robles was charged with the loss tossing all 6.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits.
McNeese opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Morgan Catron scored on an error to put the Cowgirls on the scoreboard.
The score increased to 0-3 in the bottom of the second. The Cowgirls opened the frame with back-to-back singles. A wild pitch advanced the runners one base. Erika Pianciastelli walked to load the bases with two outs. McNeese State benefited from another walk to bring in an unearned run. The inning ended with an out at second base.
McNeese added another run in the top of the sixth inning. Hailey Drew doubled to left center on the first play. Rachel Smith doubled down left field line to allow Drew to score.
Southern Miss returns to the field on Friday, Feb. 10 as the Golden Eagles take on Ball State in the first game of the Louisiana Lafayette Tournament.
