Southern Miss Eyes Redemption Against Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Women's Basketball team (18-9, 10-5) welcomes the Owls of Rice (16-9, 7-7) to Reed Green Coliseum Thursday Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
In the Jan. 21 meeting, The Lady Eagles were defeated 76-68. Rice shot .563 percent from the floor, including .526 percent from the three-point line.
Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is looking for a defensive improvement from the last match up and making sure her team secures every 50-50 ball.
"They can't shoot the ball like they did [last time]," McNelis said. "If they do, we don't have a chance. We cannot allow them to have as many open looks as they had. Every 50-50 ball at Rice belonged to Rice. When 50-50 balls end up in the opponents hands then they are going to win every time. Those are the two big factors of why we lost at their place."
Southern Miss has home court advantage on their side. The Lady Eagles have won 10 games at home for four straight years. The team is also coming off of a game where the team secured 50 rebounds, the first time doing so since Jan. 2 of 2016.
Tickets can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center. Starting 30 minutes before tip, Lady Eagle fans can also hear Josh West on the radio broadcast for the game on WFOR 1400 AM.
