Espiov Earns Spot In CCB Collegiate Invitational Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mikhail Esipov continued to dazzle at the CCB Collegiate Invitational earning him a spot in Championship round set for Sunday at 9 a.m.
Esipov won his third straight match in straight set fashion after defeating the No. 4 seed Kenton Parton of UAB. Esipov won 6-3, 6-1 to reach the Championship and will face Tatsuki Shimamoto of Miami. Shimamoto holds the No. 3 seed in the Houndstooth Draw.
Esipov and doubles partner Teeradon Tortrakul secured the Golden Eagles first doubles win in an 8-6 win against Stuckey of Alabama and Wagner of Tulane. Chung Han Tsai and Wen-Po Tseng later defeated Jankulovski and Soriano of Miami 8-5.
Daniel Merker earned his first win of the tournament against Ryan Smith of Tennessee in a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Tseng and Tsai added their second wins of the day each defeating their Troy opponent. Tseng bested Mustapha Belcona 6-3, 6-4 and Tsai defeated Andy Lau with the same score.
Golden Eagles will conclude action at the Birmingham Country Club tomorrow for the final day of the tournament.
