JACKSON, Miss. -- It was smooth sailing for the Southern Miss volleyball team on Monday night, rolling to a sweep of Jackson State (25-12, 25-16, 25-15).
Breleigh Favre and Ashley Berry were the top two offensive performers with six kills apiece. The Golden Eagles hit .307 on the night, including .542 and .429 in the first two sets. Sarah Bell was once again the epitome of efficiency with four kills on five attacks.
The two teams fought to an 8-8 tie in the second set before three consecutive Lady Tiger attack errors ultimately put Southern Miss ahead for good.
Southern Miss (12-7, 2-1 C-USA) naturally came out firing in the first set, where it is 14-5 on the year. Kylie Grandy picked up her 26th and 27th aces of the season, the latter of which forced a JSU timeout with an 8-3 Golden Eagle lead.
Southern Miss has now won 22 consecutive contests against Jackson State. The Lady Tigers were held to just -.012 on the offensive end, the first time a team was held to the negatives since Northwestern State in a 2016 tournament at Alabama.
The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to Western Kentucky for a 6 p.m. CT matchup. The Lady Toppers are currently No. 27 nationally.
