HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Patience is a virtue, and that rings true for the Southern Miss volleyball team. The Golden Eagles are finally back home for a rare Monday afternoon matchup with C-USA foe UTEP at 1 p.m. CT.
The teams were originally slated to play Oct. 8, but Hurricane Nate's impending arrival forced a rearrangement between the teams. The match will air on CUSA.tv as well as The Score 1400 AM in Hattiesburg. It will also end a 22-day stretch between C-USA home events, the longest for the program in its C-USA history.
Kylie Grandy has been one to watch this season, as her 4.21 kills/set in C-USA play is her best-such average of her career.
Last season's matchup in El Paso was absolutely the Chanel Joyce (since-graduated) Show. The senior had a 14-kill, no-error performance for a .700 hitting percentage, which marked the best by a Golden Eagle since Elise Ames in 2014 versus Georgia. As a whole, the team hit .324 for its highest in a C-USA bout since 2013 versus East Carolina.
Catherine Repsher also continued a torrid pace in that win over the Miners. Her .444 hitting percentage marked her third in a row with that mark or better (.478 versus No. 25 K-State, .615 against North Texas).
Southern Miss (13-8, 3-2 C-USA) out-hit LA Tech .272 to .168 on Friday night.
As far as the head-to-head is concerned, Southern Miss has defeated UTEP five times in a row and 10 of the last 11. This year, the Miners have a five-match losing streak since upsetting Rice at home, and have a 4-15, 1-5 record. The squad most recently fell at UTSA on Sunday afternoon.
