Lady Eagles Tip With UTEP Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. â€" The Lady Eagles wrap up three straight conference road games after Saturday's contest against UTEP in El Paso, Texas at 3 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss, on the heels of a 69-68 win at UTSA, is averaging 65 points per game, grabbing 40.5 rebounds and swiping 9.5 steals in conference play.
Freshman Shonte Hailes, who has had three straight games of double-digit scoring figures, leads the Lady Eagles with 19.5 points per game in conference play. Senior Brittanny Dinkins is averaging 13.0 points per game in C-USA contests.
Against the Roadrunners of UTSA multiple players set career and season marks. Redshirt Sophomore Megan Brown put up a season high 14 points, Dinkins swatted a season high 2 blocks and Jayla King vacuumed a career-high 18 boards.
The Miners defeated Louisiana Tech 69-62 on Thursday evening to improve to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in C-USA play.
"UTEP has a rich tradition in success," said head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "It is just a different feel when you go in and play them in their arena. You going in knowing that UTEP is supposed to win. Coach Keitha Adams had done a tremendous job of establishing a winning tradition."
Senior Sparkle Taylor, who Coach McNelis described as an at-will scorer, leads UTEP with 26.5 points in conference games. Taylor is the sixth leading scorer in the conference this season. The Miner's also have the league's second leading rebounder, Junior Tamara Seda, who is averaging 9.7 in every contest this season.
