The Lady Eagles traveled to San Antonio, Texas Wednesday afternoon for the first of two games in the Lone Star State.
Southern Miss will take on the Roadrunners of UTSA tomorrow at 7 p.m. CT.
UTSA is coming off an 83-81 win over in state rival UTEP.
"Grit is the one word that comes to mind when thinking about UTSA," said head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "They play very hard, are very intense and play with a lot of grit. They get to the free throw line and it gives them an opportunity to score a lot of points."
Roadrunner Junior Guard Loryn Goodwin has made 76 of 115 attempted free throws this season. Her attempts lead the conference and are the third most nationally. Goodwin's makes are second best in the conference and eighth most nationally. Goodwin is also ranked second in the confer¬ence for total points (236), point per game (19.7), steals (39) and steals per game (3.25).
"It will be critical for us to defend with our feet and keep our hands out of there," McNelis said. "We also need to get out to a better start and make the easy plays and easy finishes."
After 13 games the Lady Eagles have grabbed 30 rebound and forced at least 10 turnovers in every contest. Southern Miss also leads C-USA in total steals (162), steals per game (12.5) and turnovers forced (23.69).
