HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- There are several members of the Southern Miss football team who have been on campus for a while. Center Cameron Tom is not just one of those guys. He is looking to make his 40th consecutive start on Saturday when the Golden Eagles host Rice at 6 p.m.
- Tom's journey beganSept. 28, 2013 on Boise State's blue turf. He started the next eight games of that season as well as all 12 of 2014. Those two years ended with C-USA All-Freshman team and C-USA Honorable Mention accolades.
- The 2015 season found rebirth, as Golden Eagle fans packed the house for the season opener versus Mississippi State en route to a C-USA West Division title and appearance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Tom was there for all 14 and earned First-Team All-Conference nods.
- Tom's name has appeared on Rimington, Outland and Rotary Lombardi Award watch lists since the summer. Southern Miss' offensive line has since paved the way for the 2016 team to hold the national rankings of No. 11 in rushing yards, No. 20 for total yards and No. 27 in points per game.
- His hard work on the field absolutely should not overshadow what he has done off of it. Tom, a finance major, was selected as Southern Miss' classroom champion for C-USA, boasting his 3.795 GPA.
