Report: The Southern Miss football team used day 12 of spring football drills to work on special teams. The team continued its individual position work as well team one-on-ones.
The team will have one more practice day before the team hosts its annual Black and Gold Game on Saturday, April 23 as part of Eagle Fest.
Head Coach Jay Hopson
With the spring practice winding down and getting ready for spring game ...
"I think the guys are pretty excited. I think it will be fun for them because they are going to split so they can go against their buddy. But, I'm trying to cull that down for another day or two and get another good two days of practice out of them before we split it up black and gold. That's usually fun.
Biggest questions you want answered heading into the week ...
"We are probably going to take the shirt off the backup QBs and let them battle. That's something I'm thinking about, it's not written in stone. We want to see the guys who are going to be the playmakers on the offense. Defensively, I want to see the guys step up and make plays. We are trying to find 11 playmakers on offense and defense. When you're the coach, it's kind of like being the dad and you don't have any favorites. You have to play the best 11 that show up."
On the receiver rotation ...
"We have several receivers do some great things and make some big plays. We've have several who have had really a good spring. We have to keep developing the guys and again, that's what the spring and spring game is for."
Biggest source of concern ...
"Staying healthy. You know you're going to have some injuries down the road, but just stay healthy."
