Venue: M.M. Roberts Stadium
Format: Full Pads
Upcoming: Scrimmage (9-11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 16)
Report: Southern Miss football began practice on the Joe P. Park Practice Field, but inclement weather in the Hattiesburg area began a 45-minute delay of practice. After waiting out the rain and lightning in the area, the football team returned to the game field at The Rock to conclude the team's 10th practice of the spring season. The team prepared for the upcoming scrimmage this Saturday. It will be the final scrimmage before the team hosts its annual Black and Gold Game on Saturday, April 23 as part of Eagle Fest.
Head Coach Jay Hopson
Thoughts on the day's practice...
"I felt like we had a good day. We certainly got interrupted with the rain and lightning but we were able to start it off on the practice field then get over to the game field and finish things up there."
On the rain's effect on practice...
"It's always nice to get as much rain and wet ball work as you can get. That kind of stuff really helps. During the spring you hate to waste a day so going out in the rain and getting work out of it is good. I thought we handled the ball well and that is a big positive."
Defensive Back Cornell Armstrong
Thoughts on Coach Hopson's defensive mindset... "He is a great coach. He has overall knowledge for the defense and the defensive secondary because he played safety. He knows what needs to be done and he knows what we have to do in order to accomplish those goals."
