Golden Eagles Open Outdoor Season at Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Southern Miss men's and women's outdoor track and field programs opened up their outdoor season at the prestigious Sam Mitchell Alabama Relays at the University of Alabama.
Despite some inclement weather and most of Friday's events being cancelled, the Golden Eagles recorded two event wins on the weekend.
Senior Modesty Lorick won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.11.
Mariam Kromah ran a time of 53.61 to win the 400m. Adriana Allen finished the event in fourth with a time of 55.73.
Elbert Rogers finished the 400m with a second place finish in a time of 46.70.
Emron Gibbs recorded a sixth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 66.27m (217'5").
Brashe Wood finished the discus with a sixth place throw of 45.25m (148'5"). Teammate Kayla Taylor finished the event in seventh place with a toss of 45.05m (147'9").
The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of LaSpencia Brown, Jazmyne Gilliam, Allen, and Kromah, finished the event with a fifth place finish of 46.54.
The women's 4x200m relay team, consisting of Allen, Gilliam, LaSpencia Brown, and Kromah ran a time of 1:39.54.
Lorick ran a 14.08 to finish ninth in the 100m hurdles.
The Golden Eagles get back on the track next weekend at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
