Softball Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team hosts UAB in the first home Conference USA series of the season this weekend at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The weekend is also designated as the Golden Eagles Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend.
The softball team will wear pink accents throughout the weekend and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
The first 100 fans receive a pink lanyard for Saturday. In addition, there will be a pink Breast Cancer Awareness banner that anyone can sign. Dawn Gillis from Waiting for a Cure will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Sunday's game, while breast cancer survivors Adalyn Hinton (Saturday) and Kay Behm (Sunday) will serve as an honorary coaches.
Southern Miss enters the weekend 14-14 (.500) overall and 1-2 (.333) in Conference USA play, while UAB is 8-16 (.333) overall and have not played a league game yet.
The Blazers hold a 28-24 (.538) advantage in the all-time series with the Golden Eagles dating back to the 2000 season. Southern Miss is 15-9 (.625) against UAB in Hattiesburg.
The games will be the first for the Black and Gold against the Blazers at home under head coach Wendy Hogue.
