Lady Eagles Conclude Homestand against Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team concludes their two game homestand, hosting Rice on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The game has been designated as the Former Basketball Letterwinner Day as all former players, coaches, managers and trainers invited back for this celebration.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (11-9, 4-5) are coming off a 57-38 win over North Texas. The freshmen duo of Keri Jewett-Giles and Caitlin Jenkins led the way with 12 points each while Brittanny Dinkins added 11 points and Tajanay Veiga chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jenkins also finished with a double-double with a team-high 11 rebounds.
Jenkins continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 10.7 points. Jayla King adds 5.0 rebounds. Dinkins and Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.4 assists per game each.
Southern Miss is averaging 61.2 points and 38.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.0 points on 39.1 percent shooting.
A Look at Rice
Rice (4-16, 3-6) is coming off a 63-61 loss at LA Tech on Thursday. Jasmine Goodwine scored a game-high 28 points and had five rebounds for the Owls.
In her first season at Rice, Head Coach Tina Langley inherited nine letterwinners from last season's squad and welcomed five newcomers.
Goodwine leads the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game while two other players are averaging double figure points. Shani Rainey is next at 10.8 followed by Maya Hawkins at 10.5. Rainey also leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Owls are averaging 56.5 points and 34.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 60.4 percent from the line.
Series Record
This is the 11th meeting between the two teams. The overall series is tied at 5-5 that dates back to 2005-06 season. Rice won the first two meetings between the teams. Southern Miss has won the last three meetings between the two teams.
Next Up
Following the Rice game, the Lady Eagles will hit the road again for a pair of C-USA games at UAB on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., followed by a game at Middle Tennessee on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.
